We're a growing startup and want to move our employee onboarding process to monday.com. We need to track paperwork, training modules, team introductions, and equipment setup. What's the best way to structure this?

Create a 'New Hires' board with each item representing an employee. Use Groups for onboarding phases: Pre-boarding, Week 1, Month 1, Month 3. Add columns for: Person (the new hire), Status (Not Started, In Progress, Complete), Due Date, and Owner (who's responsible). Use the Subitems feature for individual tasks within each phase. Set up automations: When a new item is created, automatically assign tasks to relevant owners (IT for equipment, HR for paperwork, Manager for introductions). Use the Timeline column to visualize the full onboarding journey. We reduced our onboarding time by 40% after implementing this.

The monday.com HR Onboarding template is a great starting point. It includes pre-built groups for different onboarding stages. Customize it by adding your company-specific training modules and required certifications. Use the Dashboard to track onboarding progress across all new hires - our HR team monitors this weekly.

Don't forget about the integration with your HRIS system. We use the monday.com API to automatically create onboarding items when someone is added to BambooHR. This eliminates duplicate entry. Also, use the Board Templates feature to create role-specific onboarding boards - developers need different training than sales reps.
