Managing remote and distributed teams effectively in monday.com
We have team members in EST, PST, GMT, and IST time zones. We're struggling with async communication and keeping everyone aligned. How can we use monday.com better for remote team management?

Time zone management is crucial. First, set everyone's profile to their actual time zone - this ensures calendar integrations show correct times. Use the 'Due Date' column with specific times, not just dates. Create a 'World Clock' dashboard widget showing all team members' local times. For async updates, use the 'Pulse' feature (Updates with questions) instead of expecting real-time responses. Set clear SLA expectations: 'Responses within 24 hours during working hours.' Use the 'Mention' feature strategically - it sends notifications but don't abuse it. We also created a 'Team Availability' board showing who's working when, which helps with meeting scheduling.
The key is shifting from synchronous to asynchronous workflows. Use the Update feature to create video updates (you can embed Loom or similar) instead of requiring live meetings. Set up automations to notify team members during their working hours only - this prevents middle-of-the-night alerts. Use the Board Settings to show 'Relative dates' (e.g., 'Due in 2 days') which works better across time zones than specific dates.
We implemented 'Async Standups' using monday.com forms. Each team member fills out a quick form at the start of their day with: what they did yesterday, what they're doing today, and any blockers. These responses populate a board that everyone reviews during their morning. This replaced our daily video calls and works perfectly across time zones.
